Types of building mortars

There are four types of building mortar as follows:

Lime mortar

Lime mortar consists of ingredients that are lime, water, cement, and sand mixed together. Used to build traditional level 4 and 3-room houses.


There are two types of cement mortar that is pure cement mortar consisting of cement mixed with water. Used for coloring and waterproofing locations of water tanks, latrines, flat roofs, etc.

Tri-composite mortar

gypsum mortar

It is a mixture of gypsum mixed with water. The amount of water added accounts for 65 to 90%. This type of mortar is used for interior and exterior plastering in locations that are not subject to moisture.

How to mix construction mortar

Construction mortar mix proportions are based on the packaging or on the builder’s experience. The ratio of sand and cement can be 3:1 or 4:1.

Mix sand and cement in the ratio as intended to form a homogeneous mixture. Add the water gradually and mix well until the mixture has a suitable paste.
